Bernhard of Clairvaux was a French medieval abbot, preacher and probably the most important monk of the Cistercian order, whose European expansion he drove forward significantly. He was born in Dijon, France, around 1090, according to the then-used Julian calendar, and died on August 20, 1153, at the age of sixty-six, at the monastery of Clairvaux near Troyes. 2020 marks his birthday the 930th time.
